It’s been a slight fall from grace for Blackpool in recent years having dropped from the Premier League all the way down to League Two between 2011 and 2016.
However, they’ve now settled in League One and have struggled to threaten to push their way back up the ladder with mid-table finishes in each of the last three seasons, and their position of 13th this year would suggest there’s been no change.
The Seasiders will come up against Premier League opposition here for the first time since they faced Arsenal in this round of the competition two years ago, losing out 3-0 on that occasion, while they also faced the Gunners in League Cup that same season, going down 2-1 at the Emirates.
In fact, Blackpool have lost all four ties against Premier League sides in this competition since they were last in the top-flight in 2010/11, so it’s hard to see them progressing here.

Sam Allardyce’s side have had a tricky time of late, losing to bottom half sides Arsenal and Leeds by four and five goals, respectively, since their impressive 1-1 draw with Liverpool though this should be an opportunity to get back to winning ways and build some confidence.
‘Big Sam’ has been known for his resolute defending and route one football over the years, and he’ll be desperate to get his side playing the way he wants sooner rather than later, though he can’t exactly be seen to sit back against League One opposition, and we’d expect this Baggies side to take the game to their hosts, though it may not be as easy as they’d expect, as is the magic of the cup.
West Brom And Under 2.5 Goals
Despite being 13th in the league, Neil Critchley’s side have an impressive home record of late, winning five of their last six unbeaten matches and managing clean sheets in all but one of those games, including impressive wins over promotion chasing Hull and Portsmouth, though West Brom are a different kettle of fish and if they’re at the races this should be a routine victory.
The value in this game lies in Blackpool’s solid defensive displays at home, while West Brom haven’t exactly been in the goals recently and with their manager’s style of play, the narrow away win seems the most likely result.
