Aberdeen secured their first victory in six across all competitions on Tuesday, with a three-goal first-half haul coming somewhat out of the blue considering they’d failed to even score during the previous five outings.
The 3-1 win did however come over second-from-bottom Hamilton, who have now lost five of their last six winless matches and shipped 18 goals in the process, so we wouldn’t get too excited about the Dons’ prospects here.
Celtic To Beat Aberdeen To Nil
The Hoops will be in buoyant mood with the title race effectively over after Rangers dropped points for the third time since the turn of the year.
Their own performances of late have been scintillating, with their 5-0 win over Hearts on Wednesday meaning they’ve now bagged at least three goals from each of their past seven outings in all tournaments, as they plundered 25 in total.
They’ve also conceded just once in their last six, with each of those games being won by a minimum three-goal margin, so there only looks like one winner here.
Indeed, it’s now 24 wins from 26 outings since the October international break for Celtic, with the two exceptions coming against Rangers and when fielding a second-string side in Europe versus CFR Cluj.
Neil Lennon’s men have also won seven of eight unbeaten head-to-heads with Aberdeen since the start of last season, registering six clean sheets, with the five encounters in 2019 yielding a combined scoreline of 12-1.
Celtic -1 Handicap
Aberdeen might hold the best defensive record beyond the Old Firm duo, but that record against the Hoops suggests they could struggle badly here, while at the same time they’re also the lowest scorers amongst the top half of the table.
Celtic are in their best form of the season, and so it’s not hard to get behind the reigning champions at a big a price as you’ll ever find them against anyone other than Rangers domestically.
The win to nil and handicap both appeal in particular. Aberdeen have drawn plenty of blanks of late and haven’t scored too many past Celtic in recent times, and their lack of output only increases the visitor’s chances of covering the handicap. Celtic’s last two trips to Pittodrie have seen them win 4-0 and 3-0, so we’d back both outcomes.
