The Royals fell an agonising four runs short of their 221 target set by Punjab Kings in their season opener, though they can certainly take positives from that performance, not least in Sanju Samson’s 119 off just 63 balls, and he’ll certainly be a key player for them again as they bid to make the knockout stages.
What that match also highlighted was how high scoring this wicket is, and with the amount of batting talent on display we’d be surprised if this went ‘unders’ considering it’s the highest scoring wicket in the IPL.
The biggest blow to RR though is the absence of Ben Stokes, who joins fellow England international Jofra Archer on the sidelines.
That leaves their batting options quite thin, and while Samson looks to be in good nick from the off, Joss Buttler provides the only real source of regular runs for this side, while their bowling options look quite thin now too as they were all relatively expensive here in their opening match.
Delhi Capitals To Beat The Royals
DC are appropriately one of the tournament favourites this season and their bowling attack can’t be matched by anyone.
Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada both missed out last match, and with 52 wickets between them last season it seemed unlikely they would cope in the last match, though Chris Woakes and Tom Curran filled the void and got the win on the board, and with their former two likely to be available here, DC are only going to look better.
