Series Alive
Australia looked in control of the 3rd test from day one, though needing just eight wickets on the final day they failed to capitalize on their position and ended up sharing the spoils, leaving this final test at the Gabba a decisive one with the series finely poised at 1-1.
India’s heroics on the final day were overshadowed by Tim Paine’s sledging and Steve Smith’s antics at the crease, scuffing up Rishabh Pant’s guard at a drinks break to leave the Indian batsman bemused.
We’d expect a similarly dominant display here from the Aussies as although their visitors have shows their class and character, you get the feeling on balance of play that they’ll be the happier of the two sides that it’s currently 1-1, though they’ll have to overcome a huge record if they want to win this series.
Australia To Beat India
Indeed, the Aussies are now on a whopping 31 test unbeaten streak at the Gabba dating all the way back to a defeat against a visiting West Indies side in 1988, with India themselves have never won a single test here.
Each of the last seven such tests have gone the way of the Aussies, and the last two have come by more than an innings, with the test prior to that seeing them beat England by 10 wickets, so without Virat Kohli we’re struggling to see who is going to lead this India side to victory.
Marnus Labuschagne Top Australian Batsman
The hosts have a number of batsmen who have performed well here, with David Warner the Gabba’s highest scoring current player with an average of 68.08 from his 14 innings.
However, the opener has just come back from a lengthy injury spell, and is yet to get back up and running with just 18 runs from his two innings last match and it’s instead their number three that takes our fancy.
Marnus Labuschagne has quickly established himself as one of the best batsmen in world cricket, and has got his Gabba career off to a flyer with 266 runs from his two innings so far here, and he could really be the difference for his country in this decider.
