How to play Baccarat

Baccarat, otherwise known as Punto Banco, is one of the most popular casino games in the world.

The object of the game is to achieve a hand total closest to nine; tens and picture cards and any combination of cards with a joint count of ten, count as nothing, for example 6 + 4 = 0, 10 + 2 = 2. All cards are dealt face up (open).

Players may bet with the person drawing the cards from the shoe (Bank) or against the person drawing the cards from the shoe (Player), before the first card is drawn. Cards are dealt alternately from the shoe to the Dealer (acting for the Player) and then to the person with the shoe (Bank), until both sides have two cards each. If the rules call for a third card either party or both must take their third card, the Dealer receives first. In the case of a ‘tie’ a new hand is played. The PLAYER table shows what happens to the Player’s hand. So if it has a total of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 then it gets a third and final card. From 6 to 9 it stays as it is.

The BANKER table shows the rules that apply to the Dealer’s hand.

A Player betting on the Bank and winning is paid 19 to 20. A Player betting on the Player and winning is paid even money. If the Banker wins he retains the shoe, if he loses, the shoe moves to the Player on his right. A Player may pass the shoe at any time. The tie bet by itself can be a qualifying bet or an additional bet.

Should the final result of the hand be a tie then this wager is paid at 8 to 1.
